Third-Party Financing For Solar Energy Systems

by Ed Tsunoda

Third-party financing of residential solar energy installations is typically done through three models.

– A homeowner can sign a lease and pay for the use of a solar system over an agreeed amount of time, typically 20 years.

– The customer can sign a power purchase agreements (PPA) to pay a specific rate for the electricity that is generated each month.

– New banks specifically geared to solar programs such as, Admirals bank, and Sunage Financial, allow homeowners to finance a solar project with or without a lien on their home.
